Grief as Medicine: An online community care circle to explore grief as medicine and to be curious about coming out of rupture and into repair, together.
Join Jasper Moontree and Aaron Todd for a 3 part series on the second Saturday of the month at 9:30am CT beginning in November. Each session will be one hour and we will meet in zoom.
The goal of this series is to normalize our grief for our departed loved ones, our planet and our species, as well as for our own personal loss of self. Each session will include tools for deep presence so that we can connect to our emotions and share from our heart. We will also share a cup of ceremonial cacao (or a calming tea) and create a simple altar to help us honor our grief and find our path to joy. Each month will focus on one of these themes…
The Departed
Exploring the ways the departed continue to move through our lives, in both physical form and spirit.
Stones hold the things left unspoken. Each person is given the space to speak these words aloud into the group. Holding water as a vessel for our prayers, and, at the end, return it to the earth, allowing the water to carry what we have offered and seal the ritual.
The Self
Exploring the shame and grief surrounding the things we did not do, the paths we did not take, the lives we imagined we were supposed to lead, and the expectations we carry for who we thought we would become.
Write a letter to yourself, releasing the weight of what was left undone. Offer compassion to the self who could not, did not, or chose not to become all that was expected.
The World
Exploring the feelings of isolation and loneliness that arise when we feel disconnected, from one another, from ourselves, and from the natural world.
A reflection on what it means to belong: to other people, to the earth, and to the living world that holds us.

Facilitator’s Bio’s:
Jasper MoonTree: I am an initiated medicine woman on the path of ceremonial cacao — a heart medicine that helps us drop into the feeling body and meet what is moving through us. For nearly a decade I have cultivated Earth Church, a community in Birmingham for people being called back to the earth — to listen to her, grieve with her, and become better stewards at this time. I have spent a lifetime in grief work — beginning with loss at a very young age, and continuing through years of sitting in circles, sharing and witnessing the healing that happens when humans grieve together. I believe grief deserves a container, a witness, and a path toward joy. Through Grief as Medicine, I offer what I know to be true: grief is not meant to be pushed aside. It is meant to be felt, honored, and moved through — together.
Aaron Todd: I’m a certified end of life doula. Grief work has initiated me from an early age and my beliefs are rooted in the belief that grief is, communal, and meant to be held together. After years in addiction and recovery work, I’ve come to trust the healing power of community. My path is also woven with a love of dance, ritual, and the devotion of the land. Through Grief as Medicine, I offer spaces to,remember, and be held, allowing grief to become a normal and celebrated part of being human.
